Psyllium Seed Husks in Raw Food Quality, 200g

Psyllium husks have been used in Indian Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years.

Psyllium husks are also known as ispaghula. They are the portion of the seeds from the Plantago plant, also known as Desert Indian wheat, native to India.

Bowel Problems? Why psyllium husk is effective for bowel problems?
Psyllium husks can absorb water 8 to 16 times their weight. The husks then become bulky fibre, as effective laxative. The husks form a gelatin-like mass in the colon when consumed with liquid. This keeps the bowel nice and soft, while the husks absorb toxins in the bowel. The husks work well because they are indigestible and when in contact with liquid, they expand and scrape the walls of the intestine. As the husks travel through the digestive tract, they absorb the water but are not digested. This results in stools becoming bulkier, but softer, making it easier to pass motion. It helps to regulate the bowel, prevent diarrhea, ease constipation and promote general colon health. It is thus a natural neutral fibre.

Usage:
1. The husks must be consumed with liquid. You can mix psyllium husks with practically any liquid: fruit/veggie juice, stew, soups, vegan ice cream shakes, water, sojamilk, etc.

2. Psyllium husks can cause dehydration since it makes the moisture content of our bowels higher. So make sure you drink plenty of water.

3. Psyllium husk is not recommended for those who are pregnant.

4. As they can dilute enzymes and affect the digestive system, take psyllium husks in between meals, never immediately after or before one.

5. A typical dose is 1 - 3 teaspoons per glass of water. Stir thoroughly.
